Creating a Modern High Tea

High tea or Afternoon Tea is a long–standing tradition that is perfect for special events or celebrations. If you're looking for a way to update your high tea serveware, here's 6 top tips to help you create the ideal setting.

  1. Minimalistic – Keep your setting minimal, with clean neutral colours and classic shaped serveware, the Motion 2 Tier Cup Cake Stand is perfect for this. While floral tea sets and pastel colours are beautiful, using clean white in a high tea setting gives it a modern feel.

  2. Mix and Match – Consider adding contrasting textures. Serve scones or sandwiches on wooden platters like the Artisan Acacia Boards and sweets on porcelain, like the Motion Rectangular Platter.

  3. Colour Consistency – Ensure that your colour palette matches your sweet treats. Try using smaller sweets such as macaroons and petite fours, keeping the colours consistent and steering away from vibrant palettes. Alternatively just use a few pops of colour to contrast.

  4. Plate Differently –  Use the White Basics Diamonds Tea Cups to hold freshly whipped cream and preserves or try using the Diamante Cylindrical Jug to display wrapped treats.

  5. Modern Floral – Add a simple floral arrangement to the table for a touch of elegance. It’s important that your food sings, so choose flowers without overpowering aromas, such as tulips. If colour isn’t going to work with your table styling, you can’t go wrong with some fresh greenery and simple white flowers.

  6. Something Sparkling – Celebrating a recent engagement, new home or hosting a baby shower? Switch your tea for a glass of Prosecco, served perfectly in our Vino Flutes.
